inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. University of Indonesia (UI) sociologist, Ida Ruwaida, highlighted the dangers of the femicide phenomenon to the family economy.
In her statement, she revealed that the situation requires a solution to strengthen the family's fighting power amidst economic pressure.
"The family's ability to withstand pressure is weakening so that collective efforts are needed to improve their fighting power," she said, as reported by the RRI page.
Furthermore, she added that the vulnerability of families to difficult situations often triggers the phenomenon.
"Economic pressure, including high-interest online loans, is often the main cause of these cases," she explained.
She also linked this condition to the case of a family in Jakarta who committed suicide because of debt.
"When families do not find other solutions, they tend to choose shortcuts as an escape," she continued.
In light of these conditions, she proposed a community-based approach as a solution.
"The involvement of the surrounding community through social networks can help families deal with economic pressure," she said.
This phenomenon is an important reminder for various parties to act quickly.
Femicide is a phenomenon of murdering women related to their gender identity. The National Commission on Violence Against Women once stated that cases of femicide tend to be considered ordinary crimes without attention to the recovery of victims and their families.
