inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno led the Hydrometeorological Disaster Emergency Preparedness Coordination Meeting.
The meeting aims to improve preparedness for the rainy season ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holidays.
In his direction, he said that the risk of hydrometeorological disasters is estimated to be quite high in December, January, and February.
The government has mapped vulnerable areas that have the potential to experience extreme rainfall, strong winds, high waves, floods, and landslides.
"We must ensure all parties are ready to anticipate these risks. Infrastructure, community readiness, and field officers must be the main concerns," he said, as reported by the RRI page.
He also emphasized that there are four main steps that must be implemented immediately, namely preparing infrastructure such as drainage, embankments, and rescue equipment.
Moreover, Pratikno also noted the importance of disaster risks dissemination and 24-hour standby posts, as well as paying special attention to the homecoming and return routes for Christmas and New Year.
"Infrastructure in the regions must be ensured to be ready, while we continue to educate the community. On the other hand, we also have to make sure that officers in the field are always on guard," he explained.
He also asked all stakeholders to strengthen cross-sector coordination.
According to him, collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and various elements of society is the key to successful disaster mitigation.
"We must move as one. Quick response and well prepared strategies are vital in handling this situation," he concluded.
