Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Dutch Deputy Minister of Culture and Media, Barbera Wolfensberger, announced that the third wave of repatriation of Indonesian cultural and historical artifacts will be completed by the end of December 2024.

“The artifacts are expected to arrive in Indonesia by the third week of December, a moment I hope will bring great joy,” she  told antarnews.com at the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta on Friday (6/12/2024).

Deputy Minister Wolfensberger revealed that about 100 artifacts, previously displayed in Dutch museums such as those in Rotterdam, will be returned. While specifics were not disclosed, she emphasized that these artifacts rightfully belong in Indonesia.

“These items should never have left Indonesia. Returning them ensures they can be appreciated in their proper historical and cultural context,” Deputy Minister Wolfensberger stated.

The repatriation strengthens Indonesia-Netherlands cooperation in museum management and archaeological research. Experts from both countries have worked together to study the artifacts’ origins and significance.

Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon confirmed that this batch will include iconic pieces, such as Prince Diponegoro’s Nogo Siluman kris and Teuku Umar’s kris, alongside other treasures from Bali and Madura.

Previous waves returned Hindu-Buddhist statues and 288 artifacts linked to the 1906 Puputan Badung conflict.
