Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has officially registered “Tedong Bonga”, the Toraja spotted buffalo, as a communal intellectual property in the category of genetic resources.

The registration was formalized through a CIP Registration Certificate issued on 18 February 2025.

“This registration protects Toraja’s cultural heritage, preserves regional identity, and boosts the local economy by supporting tourism in Tana Toraja and North Toraja,” Head of the South Sulawesi Law and Human Rights Office, Andi Basmal, said on Wednesday (19/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com,

The initiative follows coordination between the ministry’s regional office and local administration to safeguard the economic and cultural potential of Toraja’s native livestock.

Previously, in 2012, Tedong Bonga  buffalo was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as a distinct Toraja buffalo breed.
