Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra clarified that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will not relocate his office to Papua, but will chair the Secretariat of the Special Autonomy Development Acceleration Board.

“It is impossible for the Vice President to move his office to Papua, as reported by some media,” he said on Wednesday (8/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Minister Yusril explained that under Indonesia’s 1945 Constitution, the president and vice president must be based in the national capital, and their positions cannot be geographically separated.

VP Gibran is tasked with accelerating development in Papua, as regulated under Article 68A of Law No. 2/2021 on Papua’s Special Autonomy. While VP Gibran chairs the board, only the secretariat and technical personnel will be stationed in Papua.
