inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra supports strengthening the role of the Indonesian Ombudsman as a government supervisory institution to prevent maladministration in public services.
Coordinating Minister Yusril welcomed the plan of the Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman Mokhammad Najih to revise Law Number 37 of 2008 concerning the Ombudsman as it is considered no longer relevant to current developments.
"I welcome the revision because the law was made in 2008 and has been around for quite a long time now so that in line with the development of modern progress, a revision of the law is needed," he said at the Indonesian Ombudsman Office, Jakarta, Thursday.
Yusril invited the Indonesian Ombudsman to study the weaknesses or shortcomings of the current Ombudsman Law by involving academics, such as the faculty of law and state administration.
The results of the study, said Yusril, can be submitted to the government to be discussed together. If agreed, the revised draft will be included in the national legislation program (prolegnas) to be further discussed with the Indonesian House of Representatives.
"But when it will be discussed requires a mutual agreement between the House of Representatives and the government," he said.
