A fire broke out at the Rector’s Office  Building of State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatuallah, or also known as UIN Jakarta, in East Ciputat, South Tangerang, on Monday morning (30/12/2024), prompting the deployment of 10 fire trucks and dozens of firefighters from the South Tangerang Fire Department.

The blaze, which started around 6.30 am, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, according to Bravo Platoon Commander of the South Tangerang Fire Department Nurdin. 

“The fire is believed to have originated from a short circuit in the Rectorate Building,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

No casualties or injuries were reported. Firefighters managed to control the fire by mid-morning, and cooling operations are now underway.

“Our team has the situation under control, and we are in the cooling phase,” Nurdin confirmed.

The operation faced challenges due to the fire’s location on the second floor, but it was eventually contained. Approximately 10% of the building was damaged, with material losses estimated at Rp 200 million.

Authorities are investigating the incident to confirm the cause of the fire.
