10 Injured in Gegana Detachment Explosion: East Java Police Chief

Inp.polri.go.id - Banyuwangi.  East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto has confirmed that an explosion at the Gegana Detachment's Bomb Disposal Sub-detachment Office in Surabaya resulted in injuries to 10 police officers. Gegana is the bomb squad of the Indonesian National Police (INP). "There were no fatalities, but there are 10 injuries," he said on Monday afternoon (4/3/2024). Chief Imam explained that the officers were injured as they were conducting a crime scene investigation training exercise, approximately 10 meters away from the main explosion site or in the explosives storage warehouse, antaranews.com reported. All injured police officers have been under intensive care at the Bhayangkara Hospital, with no serious injuries reported. They have been under observation for  health monitoring. The extent of damage to the Gegana Detachment's  Office is being assessed, including surrounding buildings. "We're assessing damage, including shattered glass at the detachment due to strong vibrations," said Chief Imam. He said that the police will assist affected residents with repairs if their homes were damaged due to the incident. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
