inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has updated its death toll from the natural disasters that struck Sumatra. As of Tuesday (1/6/2026), the total number of deaths in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh reached 1,178.
This was conveyed by Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, in a press conference. He explained that the number increased after one death was reported from Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.
"As of today, Tuesday, January 6, there is an additional death from Central Tapanuli, bringing the total number of deaths today to 1,178," said Abdul Muhari.
According to BNPB data, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Aceh Province, with 543 people. Meanwhile, the highest number of missing people is in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, with 74 people.
