Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy personally inspected the identification process of the 12 victims of an accident on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road at kilometer 58, at the Regional General Hospital of Karawang, West Java on Monday (8//4/2024).
"As of now, the INP Forensic Team is in the process of identifying the victims," he said, referring to the Indonesian National Police.
As many as 12 passengers lost their lives in the accident, which occurred due to two cars catching fire. Of the 12 deceased, seven were male and five were female, as reported by antaranews.com.
The deceased victims were treated at the Karawang General Hospital, while the injured have been transported to Rosela Karawang Hospital.
Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the tragic accident.
The accident involved three vehicles: a Primajasa Bus with license plate number B-7655-TGD, a Grand Max with license plate number B-1635-BKT, and a Daihatsu Terios.
The fatal incident took place on Monday morning during contraflow implementation on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road.
The Grand Max, attempting to pull over onto the shoulder of the road, inadvertently entered the opposite lane towards Jakarta.
Subsequently, a bus from the Cikampek direction collided with the Grand Max, resulting in a fiery accident. The Terios then collided with the bus and Grand Max, further exacerbating the situation.
