inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stated that approximately 14,000 cases received through legal aid posts in villages and sub-districts across Indonesia have been resolved through mediation using a restorative justice approach.

Supratman stated that resolving tens of thousands of cases through mediation has the potential to save the state budget up to Rp 1.2 trillion compared to if all cases proceeded to court.

"If this had gone to court, then with restorative justice, the state could save Rp 1.2 trillion in case resolution, the 14,000 cases we resolved through mediation," Supratman said after a closed meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/29/2026).

Supratman stated that currently, approximately 83,960 legal aid posts have been established in villages and sub-districts across Indonesia. Of these, he said, approximately 16,000 cases have been received and handled through legal aid posts.

Around 14,000 of these cases were resolved through mediation, while approximately 2,000 others were forwarded to free legal aid.

He explained that cases handled by the legal aid posts include land disputes between residents, domestic violence, and various other minor cases deemed amenable to resolution through mediation.

According to Supratman, the restorative justice approach implemented is not only oriented towards case resolution but also towards restoring the community's social conditions, preventing cases from having to proceed to law enforcement.

"The most important aspect of mediation, the restorative justice approach, is the restoration of the community's social conditions, which can be restored without having to go through the law enforcement process," he said.

Supratman said the legal aid post involves several elements at the village and sub-district levels, such as Village Guidance Officers, Community Security and Order Officers, paralegals, and village heads who act as peacemakers.

He added that the restorative case resolution model through posbankum aligns with the restorative justice approach implemented in the drafting of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

"And this restorative resolution model aligns with the drafting of our new KUHAP; the approach is restorative justice," he said.
