Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Nineteen Rohingya migrants, temporarily sheltered in Seunebok Rawang, East Aceh, escaped early Monday morning (4/11/2024).

Syamsul Bahri, the Head of the Political, Government, and Security Division in East Aceh, said that the escapees include 12 women and seven men, all of whom initially landed on the shores of Meunasah Hasan Village in East Aceh’s Madat District.

Authorities are currently searching for the missing individuals.

"Following their escape, only 72 of the original 91 Rohingya migrants remain at the Seunebok Rawang shelter," Bahri confirmed, as reported by antaranews.com.

An additional 28 Rohingya migrants, who landed at Kuala Parek, are also housed at this site, bringing the total sheltered population to 100.

UNHCR, the international refugee agency, is overseeing the care and security of the migrants at the shelter, Bahri added.

The group of 91 migrants had initially landed on Meunasah Hasan's coast, sparking efforts by local and international authorities to provide aid and security.
