Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto confirmed on Thursday (28/3/2024) that 1,900 Indonesian students were suspected victims of human trafficking in Germany.
He disclosed that his ministry has been probing the likelihood of these students falling prey to trafficking under the guise of internship programs in Germany, as reported by antaranews.com
"We're addressing coordination challenges with various stakeholders. Firstly, with Dikti, secondly, with the Indonesian National Police, and thirdly, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to unravel the complexities of the students' recruitment process," Minister Hadi explained, referring to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology's Higher Degree Directorate.
The suspicions regarding human trafficking surfaced in mid-March 2024. Following reports from the Indonesian Embassy in Germany, the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department commenced inquiries into the matter.
