inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A total of 200 participants from 29 regions across Indonesia were trained to become disability sports leaders through the "Berdaya" Training of Trainers (TOT) program for Disability Sports Leaders, run by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Indonesian National Paralympic Games Association (NPC).
In an official statement from the Ministry, quoted in Jakarta on Monday, the program was opened by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir at the Indonesian Paralympic Training Center in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Monday (5/11/2026).
The Minister stated that the program, one of his ministry's flagship programs, was the result of a joint initiative by NPC Indonesia, experts, and the Asian Para Games Chef de Mission (CdM). They agreed that developing more athletes with disabilities requires competent coaches.
Erick stated that the program will produce competent and certified coaches, mentors, and disability sports leaders. Thus, the program is expected to further strengthen the disability sports ecosystem in Indonesia and open more opportunities for the development of potential athletes from various regions.
"It's impossible to develop athletes from the regions without the support of figures who understand how to produce athletes. These athletes should not be forgotten for their amazing achievements," he said.
Meanwhile, NPC Indonesia Chairperson Senny Marbun expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Youth and Sports for initiating the program. He considered it an extraordinary step by the Ministry, as it was the first of its kind to strengthen comprehensive development of disability sports.
"We can now see for ourselves and feel the fundamentals Erick has implemented in sports," he explained.
