inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Health Quarantine Center (BBKK) in Tangerang, Banten, is tightening supervision of travelers arriving from four countries where Hantavirus transmission cases are anticipated.

"So, we are tightening supervision of countries where Hantavirus has been detected or identified," stated Naning Nugrahini, Head of BBKK Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, on Tuesday (5/12/2026).

She explained that special supervision, through the implementation of health standards, is being implemented for air passengers to the four countries, including those traveling from the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, and Panama.

This measure was taken in response to the World Health Organization (WHO)'s findings regarding the transmission of the virus among three cruise ship passengers who died from the virus.

"So, we are implementing extra stricter controls for those four countries for direct flights to Soekarno-Hatta. However, we are not ruling out the possibility of new ones being discovered, and of course, we will add or correct them," explained Naning.

He said that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport authorities have re-implemented health standards for air travelers entering Indonesia. They will conduct medical checks and in-depth screening.

"We at Soekarno-Hatta have taken precautions. The first step is to fill out a health declaration on the Satu Sehat app. From there, we will determine the risks associated with the aircraft, whether there are any at-risk individuals or not. Second, upon disembarkation, we will monitor for signs and symptoms using a thermal scanner and visual observation," explained Naning.

He explained that Soekarno-Hatta Airport has a special infectious disease evaluation lane. If an infectious disease is identified, they will take further action.

He urged air travelers to remain vigilant and adhere to health protocols. Hantavirus is transmitted through urine, saliva, and contamination from rodents.
