Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. The police have released 22 people detained during a protest demanding the resignation of Pati Regent Sudewo, which turned violent on Wednesday.
“Last night, 22 people were taken into custody. They have been given guidance and returned to their field coordinator and families,” said Central Java Regional Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Artanto on Thursday (14/8/2025).
All detainees were residents of Pati regency, mostly teenagers and adults.
Authorities confirmed that five civilians injured in the clashes remain hospitalized, along with two police officers who also sustained injuries.
The protest, attended by hundreds of residents, escalated when demonstrators attempted to force their way into the Pati regency office complex. Police responded by firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The rally was part of growing public calls for Regent Sudewo to step down over alleged governance issues.
