inp.polri.go.id - Central Jakarta. A massive fire engulfed a densely populated residential area in Kemayoran Gempol behind Jiung Market, Kebon Kosong Village, Kemayoran District, Central Jakarta, on Monday evening (6/1/2026).
The incident destroyed approximately 250 semi-permanent buildings.
Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Reynold E. P. Hutagalung, stated that the fire occurred at around 9:10 PM WIB and was reported to officers at around 9:15 PM. The fire is believed to have started in two residents' homes.
The fire then grew and spread to other buildings in the densely populated area. The Police Chief stated that his team immediately deployed hundreds of joint personnel to assist with firefighting and the evacuation of residents.
"We received a report of a fire in the Kebon Kosong area of Kemayoran at night and immediately deployed joint personnel along with firefighters to the scene to handle the fire," explained Reynold in a statement on Tuesday (6/2/2026).
According to Reynold, he stated that around 200 police personnel were deployed to help residents save their belongings and provide security around the fire site.
"We have deployed around 200 personnel to help residents evacuate their belongings and ensure the handling process runs safely and smoothly," he said.
Based on preliminary data, Reynold stated that around 300 families, totaling approximately 500 people, were affected by the fire. Three victims, Puput and Dika, were reportedly injured and are undergoing treatment at Hermina Kemayoran Hospital, while another victim, Suparno, was referred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the exact cause is still under investigation.
More than 25 fire trucks were deployed to the location to extinguish and cool the fire.
