inp.polri.go.id - Papua. The Papua Regional Police Mobile Brigade unit has deployed a bomb disposal team to investigate the explosion of a World War II bomb in Biak Numfor Regency.
The 16-person Bomb Squad, led by Senior Superintendent Hanasbey, was dispatched to Biak.
"Upon arrival in Biak, the Bomb Squad team immediately went to the scene of the explosion in a fisheries complex to investigate whether there were any remaining World War II bombs," said Hanasbey on Monday (6/1/2026).
According to reports received, the bomb, a World War II bomb, exploded in a residential area in Biak, killing five people and severely damaging four homes.
Meanwhile, Biak Numfor Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Ari Trestiawan, separately stated that police tape has been placed on the scene of the explosion.
"Since yesterday, the public has been advised not to approach the scene due to concerns about other bombs," he said.
The Bomb Squad will ensure the location of the bomb explosion is safe for crime scene investigation.
The bomb exploded at around 2:45 p.m. In addition to killing five residents, three people are also reported missing.
