Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. East Java Regional Police is set to deploy 2,959 personnel from the police and military to secure the AFF U-19 Championship in Surabaya from 17-29 July 2024.
East Java Police Chief, Inspector General Imam Sugianto, announced during a press briefing on Tuesday (16/7/2024) that these personnel will collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure the safety of all event locations, accommodations, and routes used during the tournament.
The two main stadiums for the event are Gelora 10 November Tambaksari and Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT).
"This international event must adhere to FIFA standards and agreed regulations. We hope to secure and oversee the event successfully," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
The AFF U-19 Championship will feature teams from 12 countries. Despite possibly less fanfare than the Indonesian league, Chief Imam stressed the importance of comprehensive security.
"With many foreign participants, security officers will also act as liaison officers, ensuring safety if participants wish to visit tourist spots or crowded areas outside their training or match schedules," he added.
