Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Immigration launched the electronic passport (e-passport) service at the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin, Germany, on Monday (15/7/2024)..

Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim said that the launch aims to meet the needs of Indonesian citizens abroad who frequently travel internationally.

"We are committed to enhancing services for our citizens abroad to make it easier for them to apply for e-passports, especially professionals and frequent travelers," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

As a symbolic gesture, the first e-passport was handed over to the Indonesian Ambassador to Germany, Arief Havas Oegroseno, and three Indonesian citizens in Berlin.

"We hope today's e-passport service launch provides convenience for WNI in Germany, particularly in Berlin, so they no longer need to travel to other countries or return to Indonesia to obtain an e-passport," added Silmy.

The launch is part of a series of e-passport services introduced in various Indonesian missions, including that in Singapore, Seoul, South Korea; The Hague, Netherlands; and the Indonesian Consulates General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Los Angeles, USA.

During the visit, Silmy also discussed new immigration policies, such as the golden visa and diaspora visa, and reviewed the e-passport application process at KBRI Berlin. Additionally, Ambassador Arief Havas shared updates on issues concerning WNI in Germany.
