South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho said that of the 39 suspects, 16 are corporations and are currently undergoing legal proceedings.

"The South Sumatra Law Enforcement Agency Unit is currently handling 46 reports with 39 suspects. 16 of them are corporations and are currently undergoing legal proceedings," he stated on Wednesday (9/16/2026) .

In handling these cases, the South Sumatra Regional Police are coordinating with the South Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office and district and city prosecutors' offices.

This coordination is being carried out to ensure that law enforcement in forest and land fire cases is carried out according to regulations. The South Sumatra Regional Police also plan to provide updates on the case handling to the public.

"Hopefully, we can release the information soon, and we will share it with the public as well," he said.

Sandi emphasized that law enforcement against perpetrators of forest and land fires is intended to provide a deterrent effect. This measure is also intended to prevent communities and corporations from clearing land by burning.

"This is to prevent other parties from getting involved and from trying to become the next perpetrators, and we will take firm action," Sandi said.

Handling these forest and land fire cases is part of the police's efforts to prevent forest and land fires and reduce the potential for the fires to spread in South Sumatra.
