Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) at around 11.40 pm on Friday.
“The quake was caused by tectonic activity related to the Indo-Australian Plate,” said Daryono, the Head the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), in a statement on Saturday (10/8/2024)..
The earthquake was identified as a medium-depth event with a normal fault mechanism. It struck at sea, located 47 kilometers northeast of Waingapu, with a depth of 72 kilometers, according to antaranews.com.
BMKG confirmed that the quake did not pose a tsunami threat and caused minor impacts in Waingapu, with a seismic intensity of II-III MMI. As of early Saturday, there were no aftershocks or reported damages.
