Inp.polri.go.id - Purwokerto. The Banyumas Sub-regional Police  declared Edi Suseno, the owner and operator of The Geong, a suspect in the collapse of  the glass bridge at The Geong tourist attraction in Limpakuwus village, Banyumas, Central Java that claimed the life of a visitor. The 63-year-old suspect faces charges under Articles 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code, which carry a potential penalty of five years in prison. "The decision to designate the owner as a suspect came after an investigation, which included examinations at the scene, interviews with 16 witnesses and consultations with construction experts., Chief of Banyumas Sub-regional Police Senior Superintendent Edy Suranta Sitepu said on Monday (30/10/2023) The investigation also engaged the Forensic Laboratory Division of the Central Java Regional Police to examine the scene of the glass bridge. "The expert report shows that the thickness of 1.2 centimetres should have been at least 3.6 centimetres with three layers. Furthermore, there were no safety assessments or operational standards in place during the operation of the glass bridge at The Geong tourist site," he said. It was found that the columns were of varying construction, resulting in sub-optimal load-bearing capacity. In addition, the facility lacked proper licensing and operational safety procedures in its design. Investigations revealed that the bridge was constructed with a single layer of 12 millimetre tempered glass, contrary to safety recommendations. According to experts, the structure should have been made of laminated tempered glass with at least three layers for greater safety. (mg/ndt/pr/nm)
