Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon confirmed on Monday (8/12/2025) that 56 Indonesian citizens detained in Myanmar’s crackdown on online-scam and illegal-gambling operations in Myawaddy have begun their repatriation to Indonesia.
The group was moved to Mae Sot, Thailand, as the first stage of their return.
“Their transfer today marks the initial step toward bringing them safely home,” the Embassy said in a statement as reported by antaranews.com.
The Indoensians, detained at KK Park and Shwe Kokko scam complexes, are scheduled to fly from Bangkok to Indonesia on Tuesday using a commercial flight. The operation follows lengthy negotiations with Myanmar authorities and close coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok to manage the cross-border process.
Before departure, the group underwent identity checks, biometric recording, and medical examinations. Myanmar security forces provided escort due to unstable conditions in Myawaddy. The Embassy urged Indonesians to avoid unofficial overseas job offers that risk exploitation.
