inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police arrested 65 people ahead of a demonstration at the House of Representatives (DPR/MPR) complex in Jakarta.
During the security operation, police also confiscated dozens of sharp weapons, two airsoft guns, and hundreds of glass bottles with fuses suspected of being used to make Molotov cocktails.
Public Relations Chief of Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, stated that these dangerous items were found during a series of preventive measures taken by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation and the Cyber Directorate of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police.
"The evidence before us includes sharp weapons, airsoft guns, drugs, communication devices, materials and objects prepared to make Molotov cocktails, including seven jerry cans of gasoline and 201 glass bottles with fuses," Budi said at a press conference at Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Thursday (8/27/2026).
The total seized evidence includes 39 sharp weapons and 201 glass bottles with fuses. Police also confiscated two airsoft guns, and 25 grams of buckshot suspected of being used to fill the airsoft guns.
In addition, seven jerrycans of gasoline, three golf clubs, a loudspeaker, one spray paint can, and 11 backpacks suspected of being used to carry Molotov cocktails were seized.
Police also confiscated four banners, four strips of Tramadol, and two strips of Diazepam.
Budi emphasized that sharp weapons and other dangerous objects are not permitted during demonstrations. This is in accordance with Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning Freedom of Expression in Public.
According to him, these security measures were taken to ensure the public continues to have a safe space to express their aspirations.
"We all want no groups to try to participate in demonstrations by bringing in items that are in front of us," Budi said.
Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Iman Imanuddin, said that securing and confiscating evidence was part of early prevention measures or preventive strikes.
