7,791 Motorists Penalized in Jakarta Safety Jaya Operation

The Directorate of Traffic of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police has penalized 7,791 motorists for various traffic offenses on the sixth day of Operation Safety Jaya 2024, the Head of Public Relations Unit of the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam Indradi, said in a statement on Sunday (10/3/2024). The police imposed the penalty to the motorists using static and mobile electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE), as reported by antaranews.com
"In Operation Safety Jaya 2024, field officers also produced warnings to violators with a total of 11,153 warnings," said  Chief Ade. He explained that Operation Safety Jaya aims to reduce accident rates and increase public awareness in driving. "Operation Safety Jaya 2024 is not only the responsibility of the Indonesian National Police (INP) or solely INP's responsibility, but it is part of the shared responsibility for public safety," Chief Ade asserted. The Metro Jaya Police deployed 2,939 joint personnel for Operation Safety Jaya 2024 from 4 to 7 March 2024. According to Deputy Chief of the Metro Jaya Police, Police Brigadier General Suyudi Ario Seto, during a briefing at the Precision Field of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate on Saturday, the personnel included 2,659 police officers, 80 military personnel, 30 Department of Transportation (Dishub) personnel, and 30 Public Order Police Unit (Satpol PP) personnel. He explained that this operation was conducted as part of the Metro Jaya Police's concern to reduce traffic accidents and violations. "To reduce traffic accidents and violations, the key is to improve traffic awareness in society," Deputy Chief  Suyud saidi. Suyudi asserted that this operation aims to maintain public safety and order in traffic, emphasizing an approach that is educative, persuasive, and humane. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
