inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police's General Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered a suspected human trafficking case involving a network that illegally sent prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) to Libya.
The Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Iman Imanuddin, explained that investigators have named two suspects, identified as R and DY, to uncover the case.
"The suspects' network is suspected of sending at least 105 prospective Indonesian migrant workers abroad between 2023 and 2026," he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (7/24/2026).
The case began with a police report dated July 3, 2026. Based on the investigation, the victims were initially recruited with the promise of employment as domestic workers in Turkey, earning a salary of approximately IDR 7,000,000 per month.
"To attract the victims' interest, the suspect also provided family allowances or fees ranging from IDR 2,500,000 to IDR 3,000,000," he said.
However, after all administrative processes, including passports, visas, and medical examinations, were completed, the victims were not employed in Turkey as promised, but were instead sent to Libya via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as domestic workers.
"During their time in Libya, the victims allegedly experienced severe exploitation, including non-payment of wages, confiscation of passports, lack of adequate food, restrictions on their freedom, and physical and psychological violence," he said.
Some victims reportedly managed to escape and sought protection from the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli to be repatriated to Indonesia. The total material losses due to unpaid wages are estimated at IDR 60,000,000, in addition to immaterial losses in the form of psychological trauma.
Investigators have confiscated several pieces of evidence, including the victims' passports, medical examination documents, airline tickets, boarding passes, and documents from the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI).
For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 455 of Law Number 1 of 2023 (KUHP) and Article 4 in conjunction with Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Human Trafficking, with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
