inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia introduced the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) in Lateng, Banyuwangi, to the ASEAN-ID Blue delegation as an example of Indonesia's blue economy implementation, integrating economic empowerment of fishermen, cooperatives, MSMEs, and community-based tourism.
Erwin Dwiyana, Acting Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), stated that the KNMP is a derivative of the blue economy policy in the marine and fisheries sector that Indonesia has been promoting in various international forums.
"The Lateng KNMP is one of the President's national priority programs aimed at strengthening coastal communities through fisheries-based economic development," Erwin said in a KKP statement in Jakarta on Friday (7/24/2026).
The ASEAN-ID Blue delegation's visit to the Lateng KNMP on July 17-18, 2026, was part of a series of forums organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Regency Government and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The forum's theme was Community-Led Blue Economy: Advancing Coastal Conservation, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Tourism Cooperation.
According to Erwin, KNMP Lateng was chosen as the destination because it illustrates the integrated value chain of the fisheries sector, from cooperative-based economic activities, MSME development, culinary entrepreneurship, to community participation in improving livelihoods and creating added value in coastal areas.
Ali Rahmat Iman Santoso, Director of Business Empowerment at the Directorate General of PDSPKP, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, stated that the KNMP development aims to improve the welfare of fishermen by strengthening their capacity to manage fisheries businesses more professionally, thereby increasing added value and competitiveness.
He added that KNMP Lateng has distinct characteristics compared to other fishing villages because it has developed a culinary center with a building concept that adopts the architecture of traditional Osing tribal houses.
