inp.polri.go.id - Police confirms the Smart Air PK_SNJ plane accident at 07.31 am, Monday (2/5/2024) morning. The accident occurred when the plane was about to land in Aminggaru Airport, Puncak Regency, Central Papua. The Papua Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo says there are 12 survivors from the accident. The survivors are Captain Pilot Ilman A and Co Pilot Ilham, dr. Yofri, Putu, Obet K, Melinus Tabuni, Erina Murib, Denius, Yulius, Irince, Melince, Weta, Julinus, and Kior. “Also, the plane also brought a cargo with a weight of 2.6 quintals,” said Benny in his written statement. Puncak Sub-regional Police Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent I Nyoman Punia adds that the weather condition when the plane took off from Mozes Kilangin Timika Airport was fine although several days before the weather is quite extreme in Puncak Regency. “This tragic incident began when the plane was going to apron and having brake failures at the rear right-tire. It caused the plane to turn left wildly, going out of the runway and hits the airport fance,” said Punia. Furthermore, Punia continued that people and security official came rushing to the plane to support the evacuation process. As of now, situation in airport is under control. “We will continue to communicate with aviation parties and related stakeholders for further measures in preventing similar accident from happening in the future,” conclude Punia.
