Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is preparing digital infrastructure support for the 2024 General Elections, focusing on internet access in remote 3T regions through its agency, Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI).
"Bakti, in collaboration with the General Elections Commission (KPU), has coordinated to map out the polling stations (TPS) in areas lacking internet access," said Fadhilah Mathar, BAKTI's CEO, on Sunday (4/2/2024).
Approximately 80,000 TPS locations have been identified as requiring internet access, based on proposals received from the KPU, and a joint mapping initiative has been executed.
She further explained that a combination of technological solutions will be employed to provide internet access in critical areas for the KPU and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), ensuring it meets the necessary capacity.
"The KPU and Bawaslu rely on internet access for online data input during the vote counting at TPS. BAKTI is dedicated to delivering optimal and sufficient network coverage for this purpose," she added.
She highlighted that the data transmission network for the 2024 elections requires bandwidth capacities of 3 to 4 Mbps. Furthermore, she noted that not all technologies needed by the KPU must be real-time, with some utilizing a storage system before subsequent uploading.
"Currently, our focus is on transforming areas with existing internet access into potential TPS locations. Various technologies, including fixed broadband, are being employed, and for areas without coverage, we are utilizing ground segment technology from the SATRIA-1 satellite," she explained.
She also emphasized that not all locations are designated as government service areas, stating, "For the provision of internet access in the organization of the 2024 elections, we have collaborated with internet service provider partners as well as mobile operators."
