Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) deployed four trained elephants on Monday (8/12/2025) to clear piles of timber debris left by recent flash floods in Pidie Jaya, Aceh.

“We brought four trained elephants from the Elephant Training Center to help clear areas inaccessible to heavy machinery,” said Hadi Sofyan, the Head of KSDA Sigli Region, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The elephants were mobilized to Gampong Meunasah Bie in Meurah Dua District, where flood debris has blocked roads and damaged homes. Their tasks include removing wood, opening access routes for residents, and assisting evacuation efforts, including transporting logistics and recovering items or victims still unaccounted for.

BKSDA plans to operate in Meureudu and Meurah Dua for seven days until 14 December 2025. The agency noted that these elephants previously assisted in clearing disaster zones during the 2004 Aceh tsunami and remain vital in difficult terrain where vehicles cannot pass.
