Inp.polri.go.id – Aceh. Aceh Police continue to dive deep with the case of human smuggling syndicate after the arrest of truck driver carrying immigrants from Rohingya. Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Achmad Kartiko states there has been suspicion of human smuggling syndicate involvement following waves of Rohingya immigrants in Aceh coasts. Kartiko reveals that their suspicion was acquired after their initial investigation following the arrest of a truck driver in East Aceh who was paid to smuggled the immigrants. Police also gathered another information related to Rohingya immigrants smuggling from those who facilitated the immigrant to flee by bus in Pidie Regency. So far, police have suspected that Rohingya immigrants paid for ships and its crew for Indonesia from Bangladesh. In uncovering the case of human trafficking and smuggling is quite tricky, quote Kartiko with the challenging evidence that has to be gathered. “For the case of Rohingya immigrants, we have acquired the evidence of their recruitment and transportation record but the exploitation record. As of now, we are pursuing those who facilitated the immigrant trip to Aceh with the crime of human smuggling," explained Inspector General of Police Kartiko. According to Kartiko, all of the Rohingya immigrants in Aceh are from Cox Bazaar. They all have UNHCR cards, which facilitated immigrants service to cross to another state. For that reason, UNHCR also has their part of responsibility for the immigrants in Aceh. "It is Indonesia that suffers from these human smugglings as these immigrants came to our state illegally, not through official procedures,” conclude the police chief. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
