Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh.  The Aceh Jaya Prosecutor’s Office publicly executed caning sentences on four persons convicted of online gambling, in accordance with the ruling of the Sharia Court of Calang.

“We are merely enforcing the court’s decision. It reflects our joint commitment to upholding Islamic law in Aceh Jaya,” said Aceh Jaya Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Anggidigdo on Monday (4/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The flogging, conducted in front of the Aceh Jaya Prosecutor’s Office, was based on Qanun Aceh No. 6/2014 on Law of Jinayat or Islamic criminal law. The four convicts received between four and eight lashes.

Prosecutor Anggidigdo added that eight online gambling convicts have been caned in the past two years, and several other suspects are under police investigation or on trial. Seized mobile phones were auctioned, with proceeds given to Baitul Maal Aceh Jaya. Each convict was also fined Rp7 ,500.
