inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf stated that the involvement of the Indonesian National Military (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) in the Hajj staff structure is aimed at strengthening the discipline and preparedness of civilian Hajj staff in serving pilgrims.
"We need physical fitness, discipline, and the ability to read the terrain in the field. That's the reason for adding the security personnel," said the Minister of Hajj on Thursday (1/22/2026).
Minister Irfan explained that this need arose from an evaluation of previous Hajj implementations, which demonstrated the high complexity of officers' work, especially in crowded situations and emergency situations.
Based on these considerations, he continued, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is adding the involvement of TNI and INP personnel in the Hajj staff structure for the 2026 Hajj implementation.
He stated that the number of security personnel involved is 183, more than double the previous year's 75 personnel.
According to Irfan, the presence of TNI and INP personnel is not only intended for security purposes, but is also expected to set an example of disciplined and measured work patterns for other Hajj officials.
"And that's what we ask our colleagues from the TNI and Polri to share with our fellow Hajj officials on duty this year," said the Minister.
Furthermore, he continued, TNI and Polri personnel are also equipped with public service skills so they can directly assist pilgrims, especially the elderly and those with physical limitations, during the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
With this approach, he is optimistic that coordination between Hajj officials will become stronger. "God willing, the quality of pilgrim service will improve compared to previous years' Hajj," he said.
