inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. R. Wijaya Kusumawardhana, expert staff to the Minister of Communication and Digital for Socio-Economic and Cultural Affairs, explained that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for healthcare services carries high risks, especially for diagnosing diseases.

"The use of AI in healthcare services should not go that far; it's high-risk because it involves someone’s lives," said Wijaya on Friday (7/11/2025).

According to him, the use of AI in healthcare services is not completely prohibited, but it cannot be left entirely to the technology.

Although AI can be used to assist in diagnosing diseases, examinations and consultations with doctors are still necessary to obtain accurate results.

"Especially for diseases related to internal medicine. This requires even greater caution," said Wijaya further.

The role of doctors remains crucial in diagnosing and providing treatment and cannot be replaced by AI, as patient health examinations require adherence to a code of medical ethics.

"AI issuing its own prescriptions is not permitted because it must be based on human (examinations)," continued Wijaya.

Furthermore, Wijaya revealed that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is targeting regulations governing the use of AI to enter the legislative stage in early August 2025.

He hopes these regulations will eventually take the form of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) or a higher level.
