Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Greater Jakarta Air Pollution and Control Task Force under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has intensified its monitoring efforts by taking multiple legal measures against individuals or entities engaging in activities that lead to air pollution in Greater Jakarta, said Head of the Ratio Task Force Ridho Sani on Monday (11/9/23).
"The enforcement of these multi-layered supervision and legal measures will be enforced, regardless of whether the perpetrators are corporations or individuals," he elaborated.
The task force, he added, has more than 100 supervisors and controllers of environmental impact, supported by environmental laboratory analysts who have carried out 32 inspections of industrial activities across the Greater Jakarta.
"Supervision is carried out in the areas of Karawang, Bekasi, Bogor, Tangerang, South Tangerang, North Jakarta, and East Jakarta," he said.
The targeted industrial activities under scrutiny encompass coal stockpiles, power plants (PLTUs), PLTU-operating factories, boilers, as well as operations in the food, pulp and paper, plastics, textiles, metal smelting, chemical, glass, concrete, and plastic manufacturing sectors.
He reported the task force has temporarily suspended and sealed 13 industrial activities, in addition to imposing administrative sanctions on eight others, with a further nine undergoing the administrative sanctioning process.
"Currently, investigations are underway for two industrial activities and monitoring continues for 13 others," said Rasio Ridho. This is in accordance with Article 22 number 17 of Law No. 6 of 2023 on the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation into Law, he added.
To follow up on investigative outcomes, the task force is collaborating with various government bodies, including regional authorities, in a collective effort to combat air pollution.
"I have ordered the Director of Criminal Law Enforcement to immediately carry out an inquiry and investigation process. I have also ordered the Director of Dispute Resolution to prepare a civil lawsuit for environmental compensation as a matter of absolute responsibility," he concluded.
