AIS Forum Ministerial Meeting Achieves Seven Agreements

The Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 held its fifth ministerial meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, resulting in the establishment of seven agreements on Tuesday (10/10/23). Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi affirmed, "From the onset, I stressed our commitment to the right course. Faced with a challenging global landscape, Indonesia has chosen to elevate and strengthen cooperation. This underlines Indonesia's dedication and contribution to the global community," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who chaired the meeting The seven agreements were a decarbonization roadmap for the tourism sector, a blue carbon emission profile, a letter of intent for a Marine Natural Peace Park collaboration between Indonesia and Timor Leste, and a statement of interest and collaborative research arrangement with the University of Malta. In addition, there were an agreement to establish the AIS Research and Development Center at Imperial College London; a memorandum of understanding among Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), IPB University, and the University of Toliara, Madagascar; and a statement of interest in joint strategic programs with the AIS Forum and the Melanesian States Cooperation Group (MSG). Minister Marsudi emphasized that these agreements underscore the forward-looking approach of the AIS Forum, with a focus on practical cooperation and innovative solutions rooted in the distinct local perspectives of each participating nation. "We reaffirm the significance of unity in addressing shared challenges. I emphasized that the AIS Forum must be a platform that generates innovative solutions and ensures sustainable maritime governance," she asserted.
