Inp.polri.go.id - Ambon. The Maluku Regional Police announced that Ambon has returned to normal after clashes erupted between groups of residents in the Tugu Trikora area.

The violence began over a dispute between youths involved in illegal street racing and drinking.

“The situation is now under control. Traffic is flowing, and people are going about their daily activities,” said Maluku Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Areis Aminnulla on Sunday (12/1/2025).

The unrest, which started early Sunday, saw stone-throwing and the burning of three motorcycles and one building. Several people were injured, according to antaranews.com.

Police and military personnel deployed forces to disperse the crowd. Tear gas and warning shots were fired to restore order.

Ambon City Sub-regional Police, Senior Superintendent Driyano Andri Ibrahim, confirmed that extra security measures have been put in place to prevent further violence. Officers are stationed at key locations across the city.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the conflict and working to identify those responsible.
