Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri said that the shooting against an Asia One Air plane in Milawak Airport, Central Papua, was related to the legislative election held in Beoga District.
"The shooting is linked to the votes contested there, but we will ensure that the incident does not disrupt the election process there," he said on Friday (16/2/2024).
The Asia One Air PK-LTF plane was shot by unknown people at Milawak Airport, which was located in the Beoga District in Puncak Regency, at 9.52 am on Friday. There were no casualties in the incident.
"The shooting occurred as the plane was about to descend at Milawak Beoga Airport. It was shot from the right side of the aircraft toward the rear door," said Head of Public Relations Unit of the Papua Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.
He explained that the shots were responded to by the military and police security forces.
The spokesperson urged locals to remain calm and not be provoked by rumors that could cause panic.
