Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A joint security task force has launched an investigation into an attempted arson attack at SMAN 2 Dekai highschool in Yahukimo, Papua Mountains, on Saturday afternoon. 

The Damai Cartenz Task Force and local police responded to reports of a fire in a classroom, managing to extinguish the flames before they could engulf the entire school complex.

"Our forensic teams are working alongside local investigators to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind this targeted facility damage," said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadani, the Head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, on Sunday (15/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

While the fire was contained, the incident has sparked concerns over the safety of educational infrastructure in the region. In response, security forces have intensified patrols around vital public facilities to prevent further sabotage. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to track down those responsible. Meanwhile, authorities urged residents to remain calm as they work to maintain public order and ensure the stability of the Yahukimo district.
