Inp.polri.go.id - West Bangka. The West Bangka Sub-regional Police released a comprehensive map of high-risk crocodile zones on Sunday (15/2/2026) to prevent further wildlife attacks following a recent near-fatal encounter in Sekarbiru Village.
The mapping covers six districts, identifying dozens of dangerous habitats, locally known as "kolong" or abandoned tin mine pools, as well as rivers and mangrove forests where predator activity has surged.
"We want the community to be fully aware of these danger zones so they can adjust their daily routines and avoid unnecessary risks," said West Bangka Police Chief Superintendent Pradana Aditya Nugraha, as cited by antaranews.com
The initiative leverages field reports and community patrols to pinpoint hotspots in Mentok, Tempilang, and Kelapa districts.
Authorities are urging villagers to cease bathing or fishing in these designated areas and to immediately report sightings via the 24-hour '110' emergency hotline.
