inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police continues to tighten supervision of the use of non-standard exhausts, often referred to as "brong" exhausts. Despite the ban, violations are still frequently found on various roads in the capital, particularly on main routes and residential areas.

The Head of the Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement at the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, Superintendent Ojo Ruslani, emphasized that the use of "brong" exhausts not only violates traffic regulations but also directly impacts public order and public safety.

"Brong exhausts are very disruptive, especially in residential areas and on main roads. This is not just a technical violation, but also more into disrupting public peace," explained Ojo in his statement on Wednesday (4/22/2026).

According to Ojo, the use of "brong" exhausts violates the provisions of the Traffic and Road Transportation Law, namely Article 285 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (3) and Article 48 paragraphs (2) and (3). These regulations require every vehicle to meet technical and roadworthiness requirements, including established noise standards.

"Every vehicle is required to use a muffler that meets the manufacturer's specifications. If not, it's a violation," he said.

He ensured that violators would not only be fined but also confiscated vehicle documents, such as their driver's license and vehicle registration. Furthermore, violators would be required to replace the noisy muffler with a standard one before they could use their vehicle again.

"Enforcement will be carried out strictly. We can confiscate the driver's license or vehicle registration, and for us to return their vehicle is for them to use the proper equipment first," said Ojo.
