Bali Police Deploy 3,577 Personnel for Year-End Security

The Bali Regional Police have deployed 3,577 personnel to secure the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 holidays, Police Senior Superintendent Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, Head of the Bali Regional Police's Public Relations, confirmed on Monday (18/12/23). He further elaborated that the personnel include 527 from the Bali Regional Police Task Force, 1,146 from sub-regional polices, and 1,904 from various agencies, including Indonesian Military, National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Jasa Raharja, Transportation Agency (Dishub), Port Authority (Pelindo), and traditional village security units (Pecalang). A joint forces of 6,000 personnel is scheduled for December 21, 2023, at Niti Mandala Field, Renon, Denpasar, marking the start of Operation Lilin Agung until January 2, 2024. The security targets encompass 527 churches, 38 shopping centers, 130 tourist attractions, and 5 ports. Potential security risks include conventional crimes due to heightened public mobility during the holiday period. He emphasized the importance of breaking the chain of drug trafficking and ensuring safety at places of worship and New Year celebrations, including popular locations like Kuta Beach. Other concerns involve the movement of people and vehicles entering/exiting Bali, potential drug trafficking, and terrorist threats. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
