inp.polri.go.id - Banten. The Banten Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate successfully uncovered illegal mining and misuse of subsidized fuel in several areas in Banten.
In this investigation, police discovered illegal mining practices at six crime scenes and named seven suspects, who have been detained.
This disclosure was made in response to the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, who reiterated the government's commitment to take firm action against illegal mining practices and misuse of subsidized fuel in the country.
The President also emphasized that law enforcement will be carried out impartially against any parties involved in these illicit activities.
Following up to the directives, Banten Regional Police are intensifying their law enforcement, field supervision, and prosecution of all violations related to the mining sector and the distribution of subsidized fuel.
Based on investigations conducted from July to August 2026, the Banten Regional Police discovered illegal mining practices at six crime scenes in Tangerang Regency, Serang Regency, and Lebak Regency. Officers then arrested several individuals suspected of involvement in illegal mining and the misuse of subsidized fuel.
The Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Banten Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Yudhis Wibisana, stated that the disclosure demonstrates their commitment to upholding the law while protecting the interests of the state and the public.
"The successful disclosure of this case of illegal mining and the misuse of subsidized fuel demonstrates the strong commitment of the Banten Regional Police and its ranks to upholding the law and protecting the interests of the state and the public. Illegal practices such as these not only harm state finances but also potentially pose safety risks," said Yudhis during a press conference.
The disclosure revealed that the perpetrators were mining mineral commodities, including rocks, soil, sand, and gold-bearing rocks without permits.
The activity took place in an area not within the Banten Province mining business area.
The illegal mining activity had been ongoing for approximately two to six months, using heavy equipment such as excavators.
In addition to uncovering the illegal mining practices, officers also uncovered the misuse of subsidized diesel fuel.
The perpetrators' modus operandi was to purchase subsidized fuel at gas stations and then resell it at industrial prices.
To carry out their actions, the perpetrators used a modified box truck with a tanker mounted inside the box.
The Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Banten Regional Police also reminded the public to actively participate in assisting the police by providing information if they become aware of illegal activities in the mining, oil, and gas sectors.
