inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Kusworo, instructed all Search and Rescue (SAR) office heads, especially Medan, to form an investigation team to carry out an in-depth analysis related to the tragedy of the deaths of two SAR members in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.

Two members, namely Tengku Rahmatsyah Putra (36) and Dodi Prananta (38), died in the PT Wampu Electric Power (WEP) dam area in Rih Tengah Village, Kutabuluh. Kusworo wants everyone to find out the cause of the disaster.

"It must be detailed, starting from the SAR implementation guidelines, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), rescuer capabilities, infrastructure and equipment, up to the involvement of SAR Potential," he said on Friday (10/25/2024).

The results of the analysis are expected to produce constructive recommendations as a reference in the implementation of SAR in the future. Not only in Medan, but also for all SAR offices that have the potential to face similar cases.

"I hope this incident will be the last time in Basarnas. Don't let any of our members die while carrying out their duties," he explained.

Previously, after 8 days of searching, two rescuers from the Medan SAR Office were successfully found by the SAR team in the PT Wampu Electric Power (WEP) dam area. Both were found dead on Wednesday (10/23/2024).

They were involved in the search operation for the victim named Jeplenta Sebayang (36), a resident of Limang Village, Tiga Binanga, Karo who was reported to have been swept away while fishing. When the search process was taking place, the rescue raft was sucked into a narrow and very fast-flowing river channel.

The raft went out of control and hit a wooden cross. As a result, six rescue personnel were thrown and swept away by the strong current.

Four personnel managed to save themselves while unfortunately two rescuers died. Meanwhile, the victim who was swept away, Japlenta Sebayang, was also found dead on Saturday (10/19/2024).
