Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. A massive fire aboard the oil tanker MT Federal II at PT ASL Shipyard in Tanjung Uncang, Batam, on Wednesday (15/10/2025)  killed 10 people and injured 21 others, according to Barelang City Sub-regional Police

Barelang Police Chief Senior Superintendent Zaenal Arifin vowed a full investigation, stressing accountability if negligence is proven. 

“If there’s a criminal element, we’ll take firm action,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

Victims were rushed to four hospitals, with 15 of them being treated at Mutiara Aini Hospital. Most of the dead suffered severe burns, while several survivors sustained burns over 70 to 80  of their bodies.

The tragedy was the second major fire at the same shipyard this year, following a June 2025 incident that killed four workers.
