Beware of WA Account Hacking Through SMS Messages

inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Various ways have been prepared by cyber criminals to trick their victims. One of them is to send a message to the victim claiming to be from WhatsApp. This method by sending the victims SMS on behalf of WhatsApp was revealed by the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber) of Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police (Polri). Posted by the @ccicpolri social media account, it is stated that this is a new ways of WhatsApp hacking. “Criminals apparently never ran out of ideas in tricking their victims, this includes the new methods of sending SMS claiming to be from WhatsApp,” wrote Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri in their social media account. They stated that those SMS is not from WhatsApp, but only perpetrators who claim to be one. The message looks like the victims had just won something and they will get hundreds of millions of rupiah in prizes. The message contains a link and wrote that the victims only need to press that link to claim their prize. According to the authorities, the link is the trap set by the hackers. This methods aimed to hijack the accounts of the victim. The police urged the people to not press the link in it. As well as confirming that the SMS is not officially from WhatsApp. "If you receive the message, you should not click the link inside it. Given that the message was not sent directly by WhatsApp, there is a possibility that the link is a trap for the consumers, such as phishing cases that often occur," urged Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri.
