As of December 1st, IDR 500 coins Year of Issue 1997 and 1991, along with IDR 1,000 coins Year of Issue 1993 would be pulled completely by Indonesia Bank (BI) as issued by Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) No.14 of 2023. “The revocation and withdrawal of those coins were taken after we have considered various reasons, such as it has circulated for quite a long time and current technology advancement on coin materials. By that reasons, as of the scheduled time, the coins would be invalid as a legal means of transaction in Indonesia,” quote BI statement in its official release on Friday (1/12/2023). BI implores public who still has the coins to exchange it at a commercial bank, from December 1st, 2023 to December 1st, 2033.
