Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential coastal flooding, locally known as rob, in 17 regions from 24 February to 5 March 2025.
“This situation is triggered by the new moon on 28 February and the Perigee phenomenon on 1 March, when the moon is closest to Earth, potentially increasing maximum sea levels,” it said in a statement issued on Sunday (23/2/2025).
Areas at risk include parts of Riau Islands, West Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. In Jakarta, vulnerable locations include Kamal Muara, Pluit, Ancol, and Tanjung Priok from 24 to 26 February 2025.
BMKG urges residents to avoid coastal activities during high tides, secure valuables, and stay updated through official BMKG channels and local authorities.
