Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential flooding across several regions in Indonesia, forecasting heavy rainfall until 20 August 2025.
Areas at risk include parts of Banten, West Java, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, North Sulawesi, Maluku, Central Papua, West Papua, and Southwest Papua.
“Although 57% of Indonesia is currently in the dry season, weather anomalies such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation, wind convergence, and low dipole mode index, are triggering significant rainfall in some regions,” BMKG Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan said on Wednesday (13/8/2025).
He urged residents in low-lying and riverbank areas to prepare for possible evacuations and to follow local safety protocols.
BMKG identified several high-risk districts down to the sub-district level, including parts of Bogor, Sukabumi, Sorong, Maluku Tengah, Mimika, and Maybrat. The agency warned that localized flooding could escalate rapidly, especially in flood-prone river basins.
